Its sheer ubiquity renders it invisible to the average people-watcher, but the trained eye knows there is more to this cloth accessory than its contents. Even the most simple tote is laden with subtext: size, shape, branding, and, most crucially, how it’s carried can broadcast the type of queer you are to the knowing community. Handle with care!
