SWANSSWANS

The Boston Lagoon’s Lesbian Swan Pair Ornament Raffle Ticket

Handmade by Ash Ariel

$10.00

In 2005, when the iconic pair of swans in the Boston Public Garden were determined to both be female, they were immediately catapulted into the limelight as the unofficial animal mascots for the brand-new institution of gay marriage. This made Romeo and Juliet the first lesbians from Massachusetts, animal or human, who anyone gave a shit about. (Berkshires resident Rachel Maddow wasn’t even on cable yet.)
