Goosebumps’ Egg Monsters from Mars Ornament Raffle Ticket

Handmade by Gerard + Belevender

There’s nothing gayer than bitching about a bad present during the holidays (“A gift card for Dick’s Sporting Goods? What the fuck was Aunt Susan thinking?”). But when you were a kid, getting a bad gift wasn’t funny—it was personal. Unwrapping a set of Hot Wheels after spending all December writing Santa for a Princess Jasmine doll was the kind of betrayal that still fills therapy waiting rooms to this day.

Luckily, there was one place that made up for all the misguided gifts: the Scholastic Book Fair. You got to pick your own presents (with the help of your parents’ checkbook, of course), and no matter what might be lurking under the tree back home, your book-order choices could cancel out anything your straight uncle handed you before heading to Midnight Mass.

A NO FEAR T-shirt? You’ve got Matilda.

A Dave Matthews CD? A Louis Sachar book will do nicely.

A Nerf gun? Sorry, but the entire Little House on the Prairie series is calling.

That feeling—the triumph of finding something that finally feels like you—comes alive again in this homage to T. Jacobus, legendary queer icon and original Goosebumps illustrator. His covers were lurid, unhinged, and irresistible—the reason they flew off those metal book-fair shelves and never had their spine cracked. Arranging that deranged little gallery on your shelf was its own kind of self-expression, almost as good as owning a Princess Jasmine doll.

This Egg Monster from Mars ornament is a perfect reminder to come out of your shell and treat yourself this holiday season. Third-Grade You would be proud, and that’s no yolk.
