Long before RuPaul took the term “squirrel friend” all the way to the bank, squirrels have, well, squirreled their way into queer culture. Think of the very dykey Sandy Cheeks from Spongebob, or fey little Twiggy the Waterskiing Squirrel, or suspected bisexual Rocky the Flying Squirrel (or better yet, his nemesis Natasha, an ironclad gay icon). This cozy, cuddly squirrel friend is, of course, an expert handler of nuts.
