Gayzebo Ornament Raffle Ticket

Despite all its emphasis on straight lines, architecture has always had a queer bent. (Looking at you, leaning Tower of Pisa.) And while classicists would have you fly to Grecian ruins in search of queer construction, new findings published by The InQueery’s Resident Historian of Dwelling Design prove the “purest form of high-arcqueertecture” is closer than you may think. Enter: the gayzebo. As a structure, the gayzebo is zoned beyond the binary, being both indoors and out of them, simultaneously covered yet exposed. Meeting place of dandies and sapphists alike, the gayzebo—much like gay sex—is not utilitarian. It’s not a shed, for Christ’s sake. Instead, the gayzebo’s purpose is pleasure. A stage for life’s little dramas to unfold. Its stiff posts and sloping shingles come together as an example, a call to answer, asking you as they ask each other—Will you meet me under the gayzebo?

• All proceeds from raffle tickets will be donated to The Ali Forney Center, whose mission is to protect homeless Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning youth from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to be independent.
